Terms of Service

Last updated: June 4, 2026

Welcome to GitCMS! These Terms of Service ("Terms") govern your use of the GitCMS website at gitcms.dev and the services we provide. By using GitCMS, you agree to these Terms.

1. Description of GitCMS

GitCMS is a visual, Git-based content management tool. You connect your GitHub repository through our GitHub App, and we give you (and your team) a Notion-like editor to create and edit content — blog posts, docs, changelogs — directly in your repo. Every save is a real Git commit.

2. Your Account

You sign in via Google or GitHub OAuth. We don't store your Google or GitHub password. You are responsible for keeping your sign-in accounts secure and for all activity that happens through your GitCMS account. You must be at least 16 years old to use the service.

Google sign-in is intended to make collaboration easier for invited editors, reviewers, marketers, and clients. GitHub is still required when you need to install or manage repository connections through the GitCMS GitHub App.

3. Your Content

You own your content. We do not claim any ownership over files in your repositories. We read and write to your repo on your behalf — that's it. You can revoke our GitHub App access at any time from your GitHub settings. Every edit made through GitCMS creates a real Git commit attributed to your identity. We never modify your repository without an explicit action from you or your team.

4. Workspaces and Teams

Workspace owners can invite members and control who has access to connected repositories. GitCMS provides role-based access (owner, admin, member). You are responsible for managing who has access to your workspace.

5. Pricing and License

  • Preview: You can connect a repository, initialize .gitcms, and explore your site in GitCMS before purchasing a license. Preview mode does not unlock saving, publishing, or MCP access.
  • Paid: $49 one-time per site license during launch. +$9 per additional seat. No subscriptions, no monthly fees.
  • Complimentary access: We may offer complimentary access for approved personal sites or OSS documentation at our discretion.

Your license key is a one-time purchase and does not expire. We will continue to ship updates and new features. By default, all future updates are included. However, we reserve the right to offer future major upgrades at an additional cost if we think it is reasonable.

6. Refund Policy

We offer a full refund within 7 days of purchase, no questions asked. To request a refund, contact us at help@gitcms.dev.

7. AI and MCP Features

GitCMS offers an MCP (Model Context Protocol) server that allows AI tools like ChatGPT and Claude to interact with your content. When you use these features:

  • AI-generated content only touches your repo after you review and save it.
  • We don't send your content to AI providers. Your AI client connects to our MCP server — not the other way around.
  • MCP clients may authenticate through OAuth or through GitCMS personal access tokens.
  • You are responsible for keeping personal access tokens secure and revoking tokens you no longer use.
  • You are responsible for reviewing anything AI generates before publishing.

8. Acceptable Use

You agree not to use GitCMS to violate any law, abuse other people's repositories, reverse-engineer the service, distribute malware, or abuse API rate limits outside of documented integrations.

9. Service Availability

We do our best to keep GitCMS running smoothly, but we cannot guarantee 100% uptime. In the event of outages, natural disasters, dependency service failures, or other causes beyond our control, you will not be refunded (unless your purchase is still within the 7-day refund window). The good news: your content lives in your Git repo, so you always have access to it regardless of whether GitCMS is up.

10. Termination

You can delete your account and disconnect your repositories at any time. We may suspend or terminate accounts that violate these Terms. Either way, your repositories and content stay yours — nothing gets deleted from GitHub. We remove your account data and workspace configuration from our systems.

11. Disclaimer

GitCMS is provided "as is." We do not give any warranty, guarantee, or other term as to the quality, fitness for purpose, or otherwise of the software. All express and implied warranties not stated in this Agreement, so far as permitted under applicable law, are excluded and expressly disclaimed.

12. Limitation of Liability

We shall not be liable for any loss of profit or any indirect, special, or consequential loss, damage, costs, or expenses arising out of or in connection with the use of GitCMS. In the event we are deemed liable, our total liability is limited to the amount you actually paid for the service.

13. Updates to the Terms

We may update these Terms from time to time. We will notify you of any material changes via email or through the service. Your continued use after changes take effect constitutes acceptance of the updated Terms.
